What I Am Wearing

Monochromatic dressing in latte colors is appealing to me as a break from black. What happens when a sample of unknown latte colored fabric from the remnant rack is upcycled into maxi slip skirt?

Those of us who like to design and make our own clothes usually collect pieces of fabric, purchasing several yards of each to keep until an idea comes to mind.  When the doors of the armoire/cabinet where my fabric is kept threatened to burst open and spill their contents, it was clearly time to organize and make some decisions.

This stunning photo of Jennifer Lopez wearing a Gucci design at a movie premier in Los Angeles caught my attention.

I had already seen and saved this image from the Gucci Resort 2024 show. Clearly, Jennifer Lopez is wearing the design in a way that suits her personal style. What interests me is the sleekness of the cut, the contrast of the latte color with black, and the possibility of what might be made from the latte colored fabric in my cabinet.

Here is my first version, worn with a sleeveless Theory sweater with a peplum and pearls.

Of course, every skirt goes with a long-sleeved black turtleneck. Our dressing room contains several baskets of them.

This photo of a black sweater with gathered cuffs and peplum of a contrasting fabric inspired me to try to create something similar to wear with the skirt.

The peplum didn’t work out (too voluminous over a slightly full slip skirt) but the cuffs are fun and the cinnamon suede mules complete the look and keep everything in the same tonal range.

Latte is always a good idea!

Realizing a Great Idea in the Garden

It is fascinating to me to trace the origin of an idea or a thought. It is likely you are noticing more than you realize as you experience the moments in a day. It may take months or even years for an idea to reach full fruition and action. This is the story of how an enchanting hotel garden we frequented seven years ago influenced the way we live today.

The Dressing Table: A Unique Personal Space

Some might think a dressing table is an unnecessary indulgence. Yet, if you consider it a contemplative place you have created for yourself where you can gather your thoughts before beginning the day, a place to rest and refresh, or possibly a place where you can take a moment to be thankful, a dressing table might be a meaningful addition to your life.
